Those who haven’t played the 1st installment might be a bit confused so it is recommended that you beat or at least play the first game before hand. If you were a fan of the first game you will love this one. Patapon 2 really steps up the game, taking the first Patapon and expanding it. The game uses 2D cartoon graphics with a silhouetted environment that the players can sometimes manipulate using various blessings. It is also in this island that the Patapon first discover the Heropon. The gameplay is identical to that of the game’s predecessor, in which the player’s objective is to lead the Patapon army to victory in battle by pounding the Pon, Pata, Chaka, and Don sacred drums in rhythm with the music to issue orders to the. It’s in that land that the Patapon face a different tribe called the “Karmen” and are forced to go to battle against them. Patapon 3 is the sequel to the previous films in the series, Patapon and Patapon 2. Needless to say, the kraken destroys the ship and the Patapon end up being washed away to a new island. The game starts at the end of the first game, the ship built by the Patapon and Zigoton’s is attacked by a kraken after they set sail. There are various ways to strengthen your Heropon and the other Watapons. The biggest addition comes in the shape of the Heropon, a Patapon that can take any class of its choice and has a powerful special attack. Rarepon can now be made whenever you want, there is no need to sacrifice a normal Patapon to make space. A major change has been made to the evolutionary tree you will not be able to unlock certain classes until you have reached that point in the evolutionary tree which means that some classes will not be available until the later part of the game. An addition of three new units for each group was implemented as well as a different way to unlock classes for the Patapon. The gameplay is the same as the last game with a couple of new additions. The story section of the review holds a spoiler for the ending of the first game. Bigger, Better, and Broader you will find yourself randomly chanting “Pata-Pata-Pata-Pon!” once you get into this game. Get ready to chant along with the Patapons as they make their long awaited return in Patapon 2.
